The Weeknd, legally known as Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, is set to be the halftime performer this Sunday and to get you ready, here are some things to know about the artist.
How he got his stage name: He said that he wanted “The Weekend” to be his stage name but it was already taken by a band in Canada, so he dropped the “E”.
His parents are Ethiopian and he speaks Amharic, the primary language of Ethiopia.
Along with two others, The Weeknd founded a non profit to help young creative entrepreneurs. The organization is called “Hxouse”.
He made a cameo in Adam Sandler’s “Uncut Gems”.
The Weeknd released his album “After Hours” last year but didn’t receive a Grammy nomination even though it did extremely well on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was No 1. in 34 countries.
