DeMar DeRozan Opts In For Next Season With The Spurs

San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan has chosen to exercise his contract option worth $27.7-million for the 2020-21 season, said Shams Charania a reputable NBA insider.

The decision was widely expected, given the financial environment of the NBA as it attempts to navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its salary cap.

Barring a trade, the move would bring the 31-year-old DeRozan back for a third campaign with the Spurs.

DeRozan’s name has been floated in trade rumors over the past few weeks, and it would not be surprising for that to continue to be the case in the lead-up to Wednesday’s draft. The rebuilding Spurs might still be able to get value for DeRozan in an attempt to move up from the 11th pick.
