Lizzo is firing back at critics, namely Azealia Banks, who called her out on Instagram writing that the “Juice” singer was “making a fool of her black self for a white American public.”
In a Rolling Stone interview, Lizzo acknowledges that her fanbase is mainly white but says that her music is “for everyone,” namely black women and black trans women.
“As a black woman, I make music for people, from an experience that is from a black woman,” she said. “I’m making music that hopefully makes other people feel good and helps me discover self-love. That message I want to go directly to black women, big black women, black trans women. Period.”
