Many San Antonio K-12 Schools Are Going Online

On Tuesday afternoon, many South Texas school districts announced they are extending closures beyond this week in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

With at least four confirmed travel-related novel coronavirus cases reported in San Antonio as of Monday afternoon, city and health officials are hoping to keep the respiratory disease from spreading into the community.

Several school districts have extended the school closure two more weeks, through April 3, including ECISD, NEISD, NISD and SAISD.

The decisions were unsurprising, given the city of San Antonio has banned gatherings of 50 or more. Now parents should expect updates on Thursday about how to access the curriculum online as school districts move to “Distance Learning”.

KIPP Public Schools will be closed through March 27, with students returning March 30. The school distributed a survey to parents to gauge families’ access to technology and online learning platforms.

IDEA Public Schools, which enrolls about 13,000 students in San Antonio, announced last week schools would be closed through March 30. Students and parents can access distance learning curriculum provided on IDEA’s website.
