Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett is a viral immunologist who works at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
She is leading the way on a vaccine for COVID-19. She said, if you can block the spike protein from binding to a cell then you’ve prevented infection.
She studied the spike proteins in SARS and MERS and found they are similar to COVID-19.
She was working on a vaccine for SARS but then found it was not needed. She is now using the experimental vaccine she was working on and applying her findings to COVID-19.
She has already started running human trials.
