A local doctor is spreading the word on the benefits of over the counter supplements used as a sleep aid that can actually help with coronavirus recovery. Dr. Richard Neel at the Little Alsace Urgent Care Center in Castroville says, “Increase your intake of Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C. Eat a lot of bright colored fruits that have a high level of flavonoids in them. If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, Dr. Neel stresses the benefits of melatonin… Dr. Neel says, “Most people know it as a sleep aid but it’s got many anti-oxidant and anti-toxin properties that cancel a lot of the effects of the virus.”

He recommends 50 – 100 milligrams, separated into 4 doses daily. Dr. Neel explains the use of Melatonin over the years and how it has been used to fight other viral diseases including SARS and West Nile Virus. He does make it clear that although melatonin won’t prevent you from getting COVID-19, it will most certainly help improve your health if you are diagnosed.
