San Antonio Street Surfaces Painted With Black Lives Matter

Centro San Antonio had some cool idea about how to reimage the downtown San Antonio streets.

Andi Rodriguez, Centro San Antonio’s vice president of urban planning, teamed up with San Antonio’s Poet Laureate Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson to paint one of her poems on the streets which form the perimeter around Travis Park.

The poem reads: “Jubilant and exuberant is the melanin of our skin / From despair, we have arisen.”

The poem represents a message of solidarity with the protests that have swept the nation – and globe – in recent months due to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

Other street murals supportive of the Black Lives Matter cause have emerged in cities throughout the country, first appearing in Washington D.C. and then in New York City, and Austin to name a few.

The mural will remain until at least January, stated Rodriguez.
